Started a new character piece the other night, the costume is kind of a mash up between classic and modern. I tried to incorporate a few Kirby-isms, especially into the drawing of the cheek bones and the two little curls of hair that come under the mask/helmet/thing???.

I felt like changing gears a bit and thought i'd draw a couple video game characters. I was a bit disappointed to hear that not all the characters from Mass Effect one would be back/playable in the 2nd one, but the new additions are so good that it didn't end up mattering. While not my favorite character in the game, Jack is definitely a striking design. I decided i'd do all her tattoos as an overlay on a piece of tracing paper so they'd be easier to manipulate in the digital coloring stage.

Well, that's two of the X-men i was hoping to finish over holidays. Just Rachael Summers/Pheonix to go. I'd been wanting to do a drawing of this character for a while so i was glad that i put in some hours over the weekend and got most of it done. I still think this is one of the best costume redesigns, i think Romita jr was the first to draw it, so maybe it was his concept. Spiffy.

Nightcrawler Lives!
It's going much better this time around. Originally i tried to render the dark areas of his costume with hatching but it looked absolutely terrible, much happier with the cleaner inking approach. Eventually he'll be sitting on top of a statue and i'll probably be taking this one to full color.

It's a new year so i thought i'd try something new and try out these things called words. Occasionally anyways.

This is basically just a study in hatching but the blog has been a little quiet in the last while, so i thought i'd post something. I think some of this is working and some of it gets into the fugly territory. If you look you can kinda tell i started hatching at the top left corner (his right shoulder), where i go a little overboard and it gets muddy. The middle right area (where i ended) is working better, kinda got a bit more of a natural feel for how the hatches should sit on the angle of the armor. Fun practice though, i hope to do alot more studies like these in the next while and try and up my inking skills.
